Hear Pixies’ Surging New Song ‘Talent’
Pixies deliver their signature power chords and guitar drone on “Talent,” a quick-firing song from their upcoming sixth LP Head Carrier. “I met this real cool dude today, looking like Jack Palance,” Black Francis sings. “He said I want to get through to you and help you find your talent.”
The Tom Dalgety-produced Head Carrier follows 2014’s Indie Cindy, the band’s first album since 1991’s Trompe le Monde – and first not to feature bassist-vocalist Kim Deal. Pixies previewed the new LP in July with raging surf-punk single “Um Chagga Lagga.” Head Carrier features now-permanent bass player Paz Lenchantin, who co-wrote and contributed vocals to “All I Think About Now.”
The band spent six weeks writing, arranging and rehearsing the album before entering London’s Rak Studios in February. “This was a wonderful luxury, for us to have the time to be able to really work these new songs out,” drummer David Lovering said in a statement. “By the time we started recording, we all knew the songs backwards and forwards, so it took half as long for us to make this album as it did to make Indie Cindy.”
Pixies recently unveiled a handful of new tracks – including “Head Carrier,” “Classic Masher” and “Baal’s Back” – at Portugal’s NOS Alive festival.
The quartet will promote Head Carrier with a European tour launching in November. A special fan-only pre-sale for recently added U.K. dates starts Wednesday, August 17th at 9 a.m. via the band’s website. A general on-sale begins Friday, August 19th at 9 a.m.
