Watch Bat for Lashes’ Anthemic Cover of Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Gypsy’
Bat for Lashes delivered a stirring cover of Fleetwood Mac‘s “Gypsy” at the End of the Road Festival in Larmer Tree Gardens, England.
Mastermind Natasha Khan and her backing band put a chilling spin on the 1982 Mirage cut, notably forgoing the song’s slick pop groove for an aching piano ballad intro. From there, Bat for Lashes steadily built “Gypsy” into a thumping anthem with Khan honoring Stevie Nicks with her own spellbinding belt.
Bat for Lashes has a handful of European dates left this fall in support of The Bride, a new concept album that tells the story of a woman whose fiancé is killed in a car accident en route to their wedding (during her End of the Road set, Khan also fittingly helped a friend stage an actual — and successful — marriage proposal).
“Marriage is one of the few spiritual rituals we can collectively share as a culture,” Khan recently told Rolling Stone. “You can’t count on someone to complete you and make you happy forever. So what happens when you take the crutch away?”
