See Nick Cave Sing Sorrowful New Song ‘Jesus Alone’
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds perform a pensive new song, “Jesus Alone,” in a dark-hued clip from the upcoming film One More Time With Feeling. The song will also feature on the band’s new LP, Skeleton Tree, due out September 9th.
The video shows Cave emotively singing the tune from behind a grand piano, focusing on the chorus, “With my voice, I am calling you,” as violinist Warren Ellis conducts a string section with his arms outstretched. Other scenes show Ellis behind the mixing desk and Cave staring off lugubriously.
Skeleton Tree will contain eight new songs – “Jesus Alone” is the lead track – and One More Time With Feeling documents the making of the album interspersed with interviews. Director Andrew Dominik filmed it in both black and white and in 3-D. The film will receive a global screening in select theaters on September 8th, with encore presentations on the 9th, 10th and 11th. Information about these screenings are on Cave’s website.
The band previously issued a 90-second trailer for the album and film, the music for which Cave wrote following the death of his teenage son Arthur last year. “What happens when an event occurs that is so catastrophic that you just change?” the singer asks in the trailer. “You change from the known person to an unknown person. So that when you look at yourself in the mirror, you recognize the person that you were, but the person inside the skin is a different person.”
