Warren Haynes, Avett Brothers Set for All-Star Jerry Garcia Tribute Gigs
Jerry Garcia‘s musical legacy will be remembered at a pair of all-star tribute concerts set for two back-to-back nights in October.
Following 2015’s Dear Jerry show at Maryland’s historic Merriweather Post Pavilion, the concert’s second installment – Dear Jerry: Let’s Play 2 – kicks off October 14th at Washington D.C.’s DAR Constitution Hall with “Jerry Uncovered: Exploring Jerry Garcia through the JGB Songbook,” featuring performances by Warren Haynes (on lead guitar and vocals), Alison Krauss, John Medeski, Don Was, Jamey Johnson, Raymond Weber and more.
The following night, at Fairfax, Virginia’s EagleBank Arena, Haynes, the Avett Brothers and other special guests will lead “This Is 30!,” a performance that recreates a classic Jerry Garcia Band show from October 1986, a gig that marked the Grateful Dead singer’s return to the stage.
Blackbird Presents and the Jerry Garcia Family are spearheading the concerts, with tickets set to go on sale at Ticketmaster on September 1st at 10 a.m. local time. A fan presale begins August 30th. Visit the Dear Jerry: Let’s Play 2 site for more on-sale information.
“I spend a lot of time working with musicians on their passion projects. As part of that, we’ll have deep discussions about and listen to music that makes us feel something. Inevitably, most always, we end up back with Jerry,” Blackbird Presents CEO Keith Wortman said in a statement. “His writing, his playing, his vocals, his versatility. Listening to him, just makes us feel happy to be alive – to hear his music. If I do nothing else in my career, I will continue to present Garcia’s music in ways we could only dream about. It’s the least I can do, and it’s my way of thanking him. From all of us.”
On the same day as the “Jerry Uncovered” concert, Dear Jerry: Celebrating the Music of Jerry Garcia, the live document of the May 2015 concert featuring Bob Weir performing “Touch of Grey,” will be released on DVD, CD, Blu-ray and digital download.
