Hear David Crosby’s Tender ‘Things We Do for Love’ Off New Album
David Crosby has released a delicate new song “Things We Do for Love,” the first from his new album, Lighthouse, out October 21st.
Written for his wife, Jan, “Things We Do for Love” finds Crosby’s ever-delicate voice gliding over a soft acoustic progression, then swelling into a stunning wall of harmony. While the song is primarily just Crosby and a guitar, producer Michael League of Snarky Puppy expertly laces the track with the occasional horn line that sifts across the mix.
“Things We Do for Love” opens the nine-track Lighthouse, which was recorded at Jackson Browne’s Santa Monica studio, Groove Masters. The album marks Crosby’s fifth solo album since 1971, but second in two years, following 2014’s Croz. A full track list is below.
Crosby co-wrote half the songs on Lighthouse with League, whom he’s taken to collaborating with over the past few years (Crosby appears on Snarky Puppy’s CD/DVD package, Family Dinner Volume Two). In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Crosby said of League, “He’s an immensely talented musician. He was very sneaky, too. He didn’t tell me he could play lead guitar. He didn’t tell me he could sing. And he never told me he could write words. But when we sat down at my house, we wrote three songs in three days. I think the only person in my life that has been that good at writing and co-working with [me] is my son James. I love writing with someone else because the other guy always thinks of something you didn’t.”
Crosby will return to the road for a string of dates starting August 18th in South Orange, New Jersey and wrapping September 15th in Vancouver. A fall tour is also in the works.
