Watch ‘Game of Thrones’ Epic Live Event Preview
The sounds of Westeros are heading to select arenas across North America next year. The Game of Thrones Live Experience is an immersive audiovisual event coming to 28 venues in 2017. Designed to plant audience members in the heart of the fantasy world created by George R.R. Martin, the show will depict the Seven Kingdoms from Winterfell to King’s Landing. Rolling Stone got a preview of the epic event in Los Angeles.
“We thought it would be great to see all those special instruments that we were using,” show composer Ramin Djawadi tells actor Isaac Hempstead Wright (“Bran”) onstage. “You’ll get the orchestra and the choir and all these other nuances that we used in the show … The one instrument that really sticks out is the cello. It’s a really dark show and the cello has this wide range and [is] very expressive.”
HBO Global and Live Nation collaborated on state-of-the-art projections to bring the visuals to the forefront along with the music. Each performance will take place on a custom stage designed to envelop the audience. “We wanted to take it beyond just a music performances,” Djawadi tells Rolling Stone, saying that both elements are equally intrinsic to the hit series’ mysticism and the narratives of each of the warring families.
There will be some unexpected nuggets for the audience as well, adds Game of Thrones Live show director Curtis Adams. “There’s some stuff you haven’t seen yet in the [HBO] show.” Plus, he added, “expect a lot of wildfire.”
The Game of Thrones Live Experience is slated to begin on February 15th, 2017 in Kansas City, Missouri. Tickets will go on sale this week via Live Nation’s website.
