Hear Justin Moore’s Futuristic ‘Somebody Else Will’
Long-time fans may get a jolt when they hear Justin Moore‘s “Somebody Else Will” from the singer’s upcoming fourth album Kinda Don’t Care. One of a handful of instant grat track’s Moore has released ahead of the album’s street date, “Somebody Else Will” is heavy on sleek, futuristic sounds instead of the Telecaster-driven twang that’s been his signature.
“I really stepped outside my comfort zone on a lot of this album,” Moore tells Rolling Stone Country, “and I really stretched my legs and pushed myself and was pushed, willingly.”
Beginning with a slinky, programmed groove and atmospheric touches of guitar and keys, “Somebody Else Will” is right in step with current radio trends. It’s unusual for the guy who once declared “I Could Kick Your Ass,” but when he opens his mouth to sing the first line about “workin’ up the nerve to say,” there’s no one else it could be, while the electric guitars and live drums of the chorus swing him back to homebase. This time out, Moore plays the guy Meghan Trainor sings about in “No,” giving him an anxious sensitivity as he tries to be the first guy to make a move on a beautiful woman. Check it out in the studio-based video above.
While Kinda Don’t Care‘s lead single “You Look Like I Need a Drink” is more familiar territory for Moore with it’s Stones-esque guitar riff, the album has a handful of other tracks that feature him trying out new sounds. He realizes that may not sit well with some fans, but stresses his need to grow and evolve.
“I wanted to create something that was still me that wasn’t compromising what I really enjoy about country music but something that sounds modern,” says Moore, who is currently on Brantley Gilbert’s Take It Outside tour. “I was kind of nervous about that because I don’t ever want to contradict myself from a music standpoint.”
Kinda Don’t Care arrives on August 12th.
