Jerry Garcia Foundation Donates Artwork for Birthday Month
In honor of Jerry Garcia‘s birthday month, the Jerry Garcia Foundation has donated several pieces of the musician’s artwork to like-minded charitable organizations. The late Grateful Dead singer/guitarist would have turned 74 on August 1st.
The new art editions include Golden Meadows, Butterfly Study and Mandolin Player. The art gift grant recipients include Musicians On a Mission, Jerry Day, Bread and Roses, Fender Music Foundation, Psylodelic Gallery, HeadCount, Reverb, Jake Peavy Foundation and Shimer College.
“It is an honor to be able to share my father’s creative spirit with so many charitable organizations that support such worthy causes,” daughter Keelin Garcia said in a statement.
His artwork will also be exhibited at the upcoming event, “The Jerry Garcia Birthday Celebration, An Evening of Music and Art.” It takes place on August 26th at Strand Center for the Arts in Lakewood, NJ. Rainbow Full of Sound will perform along with special guests including Corby Pryor, and former Garcia collaborators bassist Tony Saunders and drummer Bob Steeler. Hosted by Musicians on a Mission, it benefits the Strand Center for the Arts and the Jerry Garcia Foundation.
In addition, the Psylodelic Gallery in Pomoroy, OH, is displaying more than 30 pieces of his art via its The Art of Jerry Garcia exhibit through November.
