Slash, Derek Trucks Set for Grammy Foundation B.B. King Tribute
Slash, Derek Trucks, Susan Tedeschi and Jimmie Vaughan will top the Grammy Foundation’s live tribute to B.B. King, set to take place September 1st at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills.
Icon: The Life and Legacy of B.B. King will feature both live performances and stories from artists influenced by the late blues legend. The lineup also boasts Keb’ Mo’, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Joe Bonamassa and blues guitarist Joe Louis Walker. Conan band leader Jimmy Vivino will be music director for the night, with his Basic Cable Band serving as house band. Scott Goldman, vice president of the Grammy Foundation, will host.
Tickets for the show are available online priced at $50 for mezzanine seating and $100 for orchestra seating. An orchestra seat, as well as a ticket to the pre-show reception (also taking place at the Wallis Annenberg Center), is available for $250. Proceeds from the show will benefit the efforts of the Grammy Foundation and Grammy Museum.
The night will begin with a red carpet between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. PT, followed by the reception at 6:30 p.m., and then the show at 8 p.m.
King died last May from heart failure and complications due to diabetes. He was 89. The blues icon’s death sparked an outpouring of grief across the music community, and at this year’s Grammy Awards, Bonnie Raitt, Chris Stapleton and Gary Clark Jr. paid tribute to the musician with a performance of “The Thrill is Gone.”
