See Jamie Lynn Spears’ Flirty, Acoustic Performance of ‘Sleepover’
Jamie Lynn Spears‘ “Sleepover” celebrates the unhurried approach to romance. “I like takin’ me out, treatin’ me like a lady,” Spears sings, “while I’m figurin’ out do I want to be your baby?”
The singer delivered a bare-bones rendition of the track in a pretty, wood-paneled studio earlier this month as part of YouTube’s Nashville Sessions. An acoustic guitarist lays out the melody and joins Spears in harmony, while a keyboard player fills in around the edges and a drummer taps out the rhythm by hand.
Spears wrote “Sleepover” with Liz Rose, Tina Parol and Corey Crowder. “They said, ‘We have this idea we want to pitch to you: ‘Sleepover,'” Spears explained in an interview with Rolling Stone Country. “And at first I thought they meant girls having a sleepover, pillow fights. . . and I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, I hope that’s not what they mean. And then they explained it to me and I was like, ‘Yes! I love it!'”
“Sleepover” is slated to appear on Spears’ next musical project. Though she’s not sure if that will be an EP or an album, she knows what she wants artistically. “I really understand where I am as an artist and what I want my next chapter to sound like,” she added. “To embrace that fun, young side of myself is a little harder for me. So that’s something I really tackled: embracing the flirty, softer side of myself. . . What we can embrace as women is that we can be mothers, a wife and still be flirty and sexy and confident as well.”
