Watch Prophets of Rage Perform at Cleveland Rallies Near RNC
As promised, Prophets of Rage roared into Cleveland, home of the Republican National Convention, Monday to play music and protest in the shadow of Donald Trump’s victory party. After dropping their first studio track, an update on Public Enemy‘s “Prophets of Rage,” the supergroup then headed to East 47th Street in the Ohio city to begin “the Battle of Cleveland.”
The first free gig took place at the End Poverty Now: March for Economic Justice rally at 1 p.m. local time, with a sizable turnout witnessing the concert despite the short warning. “Thank you for coming out today with your joy and your militancy,” Morello told the crowd (via Cleveland.com). “We’re gonna play one more jam, then we’re gonna go over there [to the RNC] and you’re gonna go over there and we’re gonna let those motherfuckers at the RNC know that we’ve had enough of their bullshit.”
After the march, four hours later, the Prophets of Rage had stationed another impromptu concert, this time setting up their equipment at the Cleveland Public Square, a mere four-tenths of a mile away from the Quicken Loans Arena, where the Republican National Convention was already underway.
On Tuesday, Prophets of Rage will perform a “proper” Cleveland gig at the city’s Agora Ballroom, plus whatever “ruckus” the band has planned for the rest of the GOP‘s festivities.
