See Fifth Harmony Bring Back 2000s in Destiny’s Child Medley
Fifth Harmony paid tribute to their idols Destiny’s Child on Thursday with a fiery medley for ABC’s summer music series Greatest Hits. The quintet, decked out in Nineties-style bandanas and light-washed jeans, rolled through “Say My Name,” “Independent Women” and “Survivor” with ease. They even threw in the unmistakable “I don’t think they can handle this” intro from “Bootylicious” for good measure.
“They’ve inspired us,” the group said in a pre-filmed interview. “We speak about them in literally every interview. Every interview, they’re like ‘Who are your biggest inspirations?’ We’re like, ‘Destiny’s Child.'”
“We’ve been together for almost four years now, and it’s been amazing,” added singer Camila Cabello. “In the beginning, we were playing shows in malls next to pharmacies. And now getting to be on this show and paying tribute to the girl group who has inspired us.”
Fifth Harmony celebrated a big milestone this summer. Their video for “Worth It” (featuring Kid Ink) recently became the first clip for a female vocal group to each over one billion YouTube views. Their video for “Work From Home” (featuring Ty Dolla $ign) is close behind with over 750 million views.
The group released their second LP, 7/27, in May. This week, they kicked off a headlining North American tour, which runs through September 17th.
