See Keith Urban and ‘Whiplash’ Star Miles Teller Duet on ‘My Girl’
Already 20 dates into the American leg of his Ripcord World Tour, Keith Urban has begun tossing some curveballs into his nightly sets. Saturday night’s show in Albuquerque found him dueting with Whiplash actor Miles Teller on the Temptations’ mid-Sixties classic “My Girl,” with both men swapping verses and mid-song compliments.
“What can make me feel this way? Keith Urban!” Teller sang during the first chorus, while Urban backed him up with rhythmic stabs on the Fender Telecaster. Seconds later, the country singer reciprocated some praise of his own, chiming in with, “Talkin’ bout Miles Teller!” The rest of the song unfolded in similarly off-the-cuff fashion, with Urban and company nixing the original song’s key change in favor of keeping things short and simple. It wasn’t a performance that would’ve pleased Terence Fletcher, Teller’s militant conductor from Whiplash, but the crowd clearly approved, giving Teller — who took the Isleta Amphitheater’s stage toward the end of the night, after opening sets from Maren Morris and Brett Eldredge — a genuine ovation. Watch the performance above.
Urban’s Ripcord Tour continues its cross-country American trek through the end of November. The tour heads overseas in December, with Carrie Underwood and Australian alt-rock band Buchanan serving as Urban’s tour mates during a quick run of New Zealand and Australia.
