Hear the Game, Jeremih’s Thought-Provoking New Song ‘Let Me Know’
The Game has unveiled new song “Let Me Know,” which features Jeremih. The thought-provoking track addresses recent tragic events, including the killings of black men and police officers, the Orlando night club slayings, and the Nice, France terrorist attack, among other violent recent events.
The song samples Aaliyah’s “We Need a Resolution.” As the sample plays, the Game grapples with numerous tragedies as he raps, from Sandra Bland to the recent killings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile at the hands of police officers as well as the killing of Dallas police officers.
In a thinking-out-loud manner he contemplates how the various situations went down, touching on the hypocrisies and contradictions existing in society. In turn, his questions feel like a meditation on a better way forward. “I’m so determined/ I promise this ain’t a sermon,” he raps, adding, “Candles burning so we marching up the blocks/ Moment of silence every time a body drops,” which is followed by an affecting pause in the music. “When the killing gonna stop?”
Towards the end of the tune, Jeremih also adds his reflections. “Don’t they know that hate is a cancer?” he asks, adding “Didn’t know we were living in the land of people dying with their hands up,” he sings.
The Game has been active in speaking out against violence and working towards solutions. Last Sunday, he brought together gang members, politicians, rappers, police officers, activists and faith leaders for an anti-violence summit in Los Angeles. He and Snoop Dogg also recently held a peaceful protest calling for unity.
