Hear Banks’ Hypnotic, Stinging New Single ‘Gemini Feed’
Dark alt-pop singer Banks released the undulant second single, “Gemini Feed.” The track features more of Banks’ signature purr over a stinging backbeat. “I tried to say I love you/ But you didn’t hear me,” she intones to her passive-aggressive lover.
“Gemini Feed” premiered on Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 show about her second record The Altar: “I just had so much to write about, this album for me is really kind of like a metamorphoses of me coming into my own,” she said. The song follows Banks’ first single “Fuck With Myself,” which was accompanies by a Twilight Zone-esque music video of Banks creepily serenading mannequins with her likeness.
Banks, who holds a degree is psychology from the University of Southern California, seems to be continuously fascinated by the subtleties of romantic relationships and the impact of connectedness on the human brain. She explored the topic in novel ways in her 2014 album Goddess, becoming known for tying ethereal vocals to pounding electronic beats as on her breakthrough single “Beggin’ For Thread.”
