In honor of the new release, we aked our readers to vote for their Spears collaborations. Here are the results.
-
“Tom’s Diner” by Giorgio Moroder
Spears' most surprising collaboration happened more recently when she teamed up with disco legend Giorgio Moroder for a clubby, electronic take on Suzanne Vega's hit "Tom's Diner." Spears is out of her comfort zone on the track and makes it all her own for a fun, and unlikely, cover from the ever-surprising pop star.
-
“We Will Rock You” With Beyonce and Pink
In what is one of the most perfect archives of early millennium pop, Spears, Beyoncé and P!nk united for an epic take on Queen's "We Will Rock You" for a Pepsi commercial. As the ladies belt while dressed as warriors competing in a Roman arena, the surviving members of Queen, along with Enrique Iglesias, watch from the stands.
-
“Like a Virgin”/”Hollywood”/”Work It” With Madonna, Christina Aguilera and Missy Elliott
In 2003, Spears' career was forever changed with just one kiss that shook up all of pop culture. Along with Christina Aguilera, Spears was already in the midst of paying tribute to one of the MTV VMA's early controversies: Madonna's "Like a Virgin" performance, in which the singer donned a wedding dress and writhed across the stage. The young stars on the verge of fully shedding their Disney histories belted the classic song in their own bridal couture before Madonna entered the stage costumed like a groom for her newer single "Hollywood." Suddenly, as the song slows down, the pop icon enters for quick smooches with both stars before a shocked audience that, unfortunately, takes away from the surprise appearance from Missy Elliott.
-
“(I Got That) Boom Boom” Featuring Ying Yang Twins
The Ying Yang Twins were just starting to break when Spears recruited them for the grime-y club track "(I Got That) Boom Boom." They had been featured on Lil Jon's megahit "Get Low" less than a year before Spears dropped In the Zone, and they were on their way to having their first hit as lead artists with the crunk classic "Salt Shaker." On "Boom Boom," crunk met pop for one of the first times, and the union was as smooth as the track's beat.
-
“Boys” Featuring Pharrell
The slinky "Boys" – written by Chad Hugo and Pharrell Williams of the Neptunes and N.E.R.D. – was re-released as the final single from Spears' Britney with a prominent feature from Williams, who was still mostly a behind-the-scenes star as a producer and writer at the time. The more subdued but still-sexy track ended up contributing heavily to Spear's re-vamped public image as a not-that-innocent superstar.
-
“Scream & Shout” by Will.I.Am
Will.I.Am fully unlocked Spears' club-lite sound whenever the pair got together. The Black Eyed Peas member and pop star originally teamed up for "Big Fat Bass" off Spears' 2011 album Femme Fatale, but it was the bouncy banger "Scream & Shout" that helped Spears climb back to the top of the charts. On the track, both became sleek robots with Spears even playing with a British accent as she instructed everyone to "turn this shit up."
-
“Make Me” Featuring G-Eazy
Spears' most recent collaboration is a tender turn from the more turnt up EDM pop she had been experimenting with on her most recent albums. She's coy and teasing on the hypnotic, smooth synth-pop single which features a subtle verse from rising rapper G-Eazy.
-
“Me Against the Music” Featuring Madonna
The Princess met the Queen with the 2003 In the Zone single. Avoiding clichés of veteran and new artists coming together for an intergenerational pop tune, the pair looked to the future and highlighted Madonna's continuing innovation as well as Spears' reign as more than just a flash-in-the-pan teen sensation. The track, which originated backstage during the infamous 2003 MTV VMA program where the pair kissed onstage, turned out to be the younger star's 10th charting hit.
