See Steven Avery Case Vividly Recreated in ‘Murder Made Me Famous’
Netflix’s Emmy-nominated hit docuseries Making a Murderer is already planning to return with new episodes that focus on the post-conviction process, furthering the story of Steven Avery and co-defendant Brendan Dassey, the two men convicted in the 2005 murder of Wisconsin woman Teresa Halbach. But for those fans who can’t get enough of the theories of how evidence was handled and weighing in on whether Avery was wrongfully convicted will have a new glimpse into the case. In a new episode of Murder Made Me Famous to air on Reelz on Saturday, July 30th, the case is examined through a different lens, including reenactments of key moments.
In the episode, Manitowoc County Assistant District Attorney Michael Griesbach suggests that the series, made by executive producers and directors Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos, failed to mention a key detail. Griesbach claims that Manitowoc cops James Lenk and Andrew Colburn testified that “when they were in there searching Colburn had put back some pornography magazines basically into the bookcase and he was doing it kind of roughly – throwing it in there – when the backing of the bookcase apparently came out of the rear of a particle board.” (Why members of Manitowoc County Sheriffs Department were there after a judge ordered them off the investigation is another question.)
As Griesbach further alleges: “Steven Avery had tucked the key behind in between the particle board and the bookcase and that’s when it fell out. That explanation was never even shown on Making a Murderer.”
Unlike the hugely popular docuseries, Reelz’s show is presented in a one-hour episode with “dramatic recreations” of the crimes using archival material.
