Watch Trevor Noah Discuss Zika Virus, Olympics ‘Sh-tshow’
The Daily Show tackled one of the 2016 Olympics more concerning stories – the Zika outbreak – on Tuesday’s episode. “Everyone who is currently at the Olympics is hoping to leave Brazil with this thing [a gold medal],” host Trevor Noah said. “But everyone is afraid that they’re actually going to leave with this thing,” referring to a Zika-carrying mosquito.
Before shifting focus to the virus-carrying mosquitos, Noah briefly discussed the bad (“soupy” pools, muggings and kidnappings) and the good from this year’s Olympics so far. “An American teen shooter won the first gold medal, which is great … especially because in America, news that starts with ‘teen shooter’ usually doesn’t end that well.”
On Zika, Noah noted that this “third world issue” has transformed into a “first world problem” as the mosquitos spread to Florida, where senator and former GOP presidential hopeful Marco Rubio said that pregnant women who contract Zika – which puts their babies at risk of microcephaly – should not get abortions.
“I don’t understand how any man thinks that he has the right to dictate to women what they should do with their body,” Noah said. “Men know nothing about what its like to be a women. Why do men always get to make laws about women’s health issues?” Noah said that would be like black people being the only ones allowed to decide whether white people are allowed to use sunscreen.”
Noah then slammed Rubio, “I wish a giant mosquito would fuck Rubio and leave him pregnant with a Zika baby. Then we’ll see how much he really believes in those laws.”
