See Jack Ingram Self-Medicate in Boozy ‘I’m Drinking Through It’ Video
Texas road dog Jack Ingram pairs a classic country message with classic country imagery in his new video for “I’m Drinking Through It,” the first taste of his upcoming Midnight Motel comeback album, set for an August 26th release.
Midnight Motel signals Ingram’s return after seven years without a full-length project, and “I’m Drinking Through It” proves he hasn’t lost his gift for relatable themes and simple, tightly-wound narratives. With a dusty, laid-back sound built on acoustic and electric guitars, Ingram sings about a fight with his lady that happens over and over again. Instead of flipping out and doing something drastic, though, he’s learned to just grab a bottle and wait for the storm clouds to pass.
“When bad shit happens to you, best thing to do is drink your way through it,” he tweeted, with a link to the video.
The clip, directed by Michael Tully, illustrates the story in straightforward fashion. After a blowup at the motel leaves him in relationship limbo once again, Ingram heads to the local watering hole to find relief. Interspersed with shots of him and his band performing the song on a tiny roadhouse stage, his patience ultimately pays off and the (mostly happy) couple are reunited.
