Hear Dave Gahan, Mark Lanegan’s Take on David Bowie’s ‘Cat People’
Mark Lanegan and Depeche Mode‘s Dave Gahan have teamed with bassist Martyn LeNoble and drummer Christian Eigner for a bluesy, carnal take on David Bowie‘s Let’s Dance epic “Cat People (Putting Out Fire).” Proceeds from the single’s purchase on Bandcamp or digital services go toward the American Liver Foundation, according to Brooklyn Vegan.
Lanegan’s smoky vocals handle the brunt of the lyrics, with Gahan swooping in toward the end to contribute the closing coda of “Been so long.” In recent years, LeNoble has played bass with both Gahan and Lanegan, while Eigner has been Depeche Mode’s drummer since 1997.
This isn’t the first time the Screaming Trees frontman and Depeche Mode singer have appeared together on record: Both artists, at different times, have served as guest lead vocalist for the production duo Soulsavers, with Lanegan and Gahan appearing together on one cut off 2012’s The Light the Dead See.
Lanegan and Gahan are the second powerhouse duo in as many months to tackle the Let’s Dance track following Shooter Jennings and Marilyn Manson’s faithful rendition.
