See Pearl Jam Cover Aerosmith’s ‘Draw the Line’ at Fenway Park
Pearl Jam kicked off a two-night stand at Boston’s Fenway Park Friday night with a 32-song concert that featured the band performing, for the first time, “Draw the Line” by hometown heroes Aerosmith.
“That was for Joe Perry. We’re thinking about you,” Vedder told the Boston crowd after their rendition of the 1977 single. In July, Perry collapsed onstage during a Hollywood Vampires concert in Brooklyn; two weeks later, he rejoined the supergroup.
In addition to the Aerosmith cover, Pearl Jam also dusted off their cover of Bob Dylan’s “Masters of War” for the first time since 2008. The concert also included covers by artists like Pink Floyd (“Comfortably Numb”), the Beatles (“I Got a Feeling”), the Who (“Baba O’Riley”) and Steven Van Zandt’s “I Am a Patriot.”
“Boston’s always been good to us, from the Orpheum back in the day to all the Garden shows, this is just one more level, so we can’t thank you enough,” said Vedder in his well-worn “21” shirt, a nod to the Pittsburgh Pirates legend Roberto Clemente and not Red Sox pitching great Roger Clemens. During the performance of “Black,” Pearl Jam were joined onstage by former Red Sox pitcher Bronson Arroyo.
Pearl Jam will also play the home of the Red Sox Sunday night.
