Watch Radiohead Play ‘Let Down’ for First Time in 10 Years
Radiohead kicked off the American leg of their A Moon Shaped Pool tour at Madison Square Garden Tuesday night with a stunning 24-song set that mixed selections from the new LP with old favorites. The most shocking moment came at the beginning of the encore section when they broke out the OK Computer cut “Let Down” for the first time since 2006, and only the seventh time since 1998. (The only OK Computer song they’ve gone longer without playing is “Electioneering,” discounting the robotic spoken word tune “Fitter Happier.”)
Radiohead‘s extensive King of Limbs tour in 2012 focused heavily on their newest material, but they’ve taken a different approach this year. In Europe, they delighted the hardcores by breaking out long-neglected 1990s songs like “My Iron Long,” “No Surprises” and “Planet Telex.” They even played “Creep” four times, which up until that point hadn’t been touched since 2009. At Madison Square Garden, they ended the night with a breathtaking rendition of 1995’s “Street Spirit (Fade Out)” that had the entire arena singing along.
The Moon Shaped Pool tour continues with another show tonight at Madison Square Garden before heading over to Chicago for Lollapalooza, up to Montreal for Osheaga and then two nights at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. They’re sticking largely to the festival circuit through October, with no word on any 2017 dates.
