Chase Bryant Shares Story Behind Signature Pink Guitar: The Ram Report
Chase Bryant realized it was cool for a guy to wear pink as soon as he learned of Elvis Presley’s famed pink Cadillac. But it was guitars, not cars, that consumed Bryant’s every thought as a child. And he dreamed of one day picking his own pink six-string.
“I was the kind of kid who people would say, ‘You’re never gonna make it.’ I didn’t give a damn about school,” remembers the Texas native. “In math class in junior high, I would rush through these tests and then flip it over and draw ‘Guitar Center’s Chase Bryant Signature Guitar.’ It was a left-handed body, right-handed neck, Tele-style guitar. And a teacher said, ‘This guitar will never get you anywhere. Math will.'”
A few years later, Bryant sent that actual math test to a guitar company in Los Angeles and had it built. He’s been playing it ever since and has found it has nine lives.
“I don’t know why, but I take it off every night and just throw it on the ground,” he admits. “It’s been thrown on concrete stages, wood stages and has never fallen apart. I think that’s a sign that’s saying, ‘You know what? This career will get me somewhere.”
The guitar has also been rained on several times and even stolen. During a Cincinnati tour stop with Aaron Lewis and Brantley Gilbert, Lewis’ steel guitar player witnessed a few guys stealing the instrument. He alerted police, who stopped the thieves as they were driving out of the venue.
Bryant’s latest single is the sexy “Room to Breathe.” Watch him discuss the song’s inception here.
