See Little Big Town’s Dreamy Cover of Oasis’ ‘Wonderwall’
Little Big Town made their first appearance on ABC’s new series Greatest Hits, in an episode dedicated to covering the music from years 1990 to 1995. Rather than one of the time period’s hits from the country gold rush, the vocal quartet took on the 1995 smash “Wonderwall” by Britpop band Oasis.
In a taped segment before their performance, the group of Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Schlapman, Phillip Sweet and Jimi Westbrook acknowledges that “Wonderwall” was an important song to them as they were starting to form their own identity as well as an instructional tune for beginner guitarists. In practice, it turns out to be a pretty perfect selection — LBT’s pillow-soft harmonies add a touch of Fleetwood Mac’s California cool to the dreamy vibe of the arrangement and the slowed down tempo feels primed for a coastal drive.
Greatest Hits airs Thursdays on ABC, with hosts Kelsea Ballerini and Arsenio Hall. This weekend, Little Big Town will play two nights at the First Niagara Pavilion in Pittsburgh with Luke Bryan’s Kill the Lights Tour. Most recently, they teamed with Pharrell Williams to release the disco and electronic music-flavored EP Wanderlust.
