Watch Cam Make Peace With ‘Diane’ in Emotional New Video
While “Diane” musically embraces the sunny, pop Seventies influences of ABBA and Fleetwood Mac, the video for the hard-charging tune adds visual details – including the man coloring pictures with the couple’s young daughter and the two women tearfully meeting face-to-face – that accentuate the heartbreaking situation in which the women find themselves and how they ultimately come to terms with it all. And although the clip benefits from a retro-inspired aesthetic, the storyline remains a powerful and timely reminder that solidarity and forgiveness never go out of style.
“This song came from me thinking about one of my good friends whose parents went through a rough divorce,” the California-born performer told Rolling Stone Country late last year. “One of my other good friends right now is going through a rough divorce. So, this is kind of taking the lid off and letting people talk about it.”
