Watch Luke Combs Sing Rowdy New Song ‘Beer Never Broke My Heart’
Back in January, Luke Combs debuted a new song called “Beer Never Broke My Heart,” posting fan video of his performance on Facebook. Since then, the “Hurricane” singer has played the song for other audiences at his own shows as well as for radio tastemakers at Country Radio Seminar. On Monday, he was back in Nashville and brought the tune out once again.
Combs was hosting a songwriters’ round at the downtown bar Acme, accompanied by songwriting legend Dean Dillon, Jonathan Singleton and Randy Montana. Demonstrating Combs’ fondness for mixing humor and wordplay into his work, “Beer Never Broke My Heart” depicts suds – particularly ice cold and in longneck form – as the one reliable thing in a life full of disappointments. The tune also shows off Combs’ vocal gifts, transitioning between more subdued verse passages and a full-throated roar in every chorus.
Fans may have to wait a bit longer before hearing “Beer Never Broke My Heart” in recorded form, considering that he’s likely only halfway through the promotion and touring cycle around his major label debut This One’s for You. The album was released in mid-2017, producing Number One hits with “Hurricane” and “When It Rains It Pours.” The album’s third single, “One Number Away,” is out right now. Combs is currently headlining the spring leg of his Don’t Tempt Me With a Good Time Tour, which recently played to a sold-out Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. This week, the trek heads east to Salem, Virginia, and Savannah, Georgia.
