See Spice Girls Partially Reunite to Celebrate 20th Anniversary
July 8th marked the 20th anniversary of the release of Spice Girls‘ breakout single “Wannabe,” and three-fifths of the iconic girl group reunited for a video Friday where they thanked fans for the decades of support. The minute-long video also hinted at a potential side project that would feature Emma “Baby Spice” Bunton, Melanie “Scary Spice” Brown and Geri “Ginger Spice” Halliwell making music together again.
“We’ve been thinking, we have the best fans in the whole entire world,” Scary, Baby and Ginger said in the video. “You stood by us for 20 years and we want to say thank you. We’ve had our ups and downs, but you’ve always been there. And we want to celebrate and have a party – and when we do, you’re all invited.”
The video was unveiled on a new Spice Girls YouTube account – Spice Girls GEM – as well as a just-launched website that also boasts the GEM moniker, likely an acronym for Geri, Emma and Melanie.
Whatever the three members of the Spice Girls have planned – The Sun has a rundown of what potentially might happen – it likely won’t involve two members of the group, as Victoria “Posh Spice” Beckham has maintained she’s left music to focus on fashion and Melanie “Sporty Spice” Chisholm is reportedly working on her own solo album.
The five members of the Spice Girls last reunited in 2012 for the closing ceremony of the London Olympics.
