Pharrell, Timbaland to Lead Missy Elliott Tribute at VH1 Hip-Hop Honors
Pharrell Williams, Timbaland, Nelly Furtado, Keyshia Cole and more will take part in a tribute to Missy Elliott at this year’s VH1 Hip-Hop Honors, set to air live from New York’s Lincoln Center on July 11th. Remy Ma, Fantasia, Jazmine Sullivan, Eve, Monica, Raven Symone and others will also participate in the tribute, the centerpiece of an evening dedicated to “the trailblazing ladies of hip-hop,” VH1 said in a statement.
Eve will also host the first VH1 Hip-Hop Honors in six years, an event dubbed “All Hail the Queens,” with similar tributes planned for pioneering artists like Salt-N-Pepa and Spinderella , Lil Kim and Queen Latifah, who in 1989 released her debut album All Hall the Queen.
The previously announced Latifah tribute features Common, Naughty by Nature, Da Brat, MC Lyte, Rah Digga, Suga T and Yo-Yo, and Latifah herself will take the stage with Monie Love to perform their 1989 hit “Ladies First.”
At the 2007 Hip-Hop Honors, a similar Elliott tribute includes a medley of her hits performed by Timbaland, Tweet, Eve, Fatman Scoop, Cole, Ciara and Furtado.
The last VH1 Hip-Hop Honors aired in 2010 with a tribute to the “Dirty South,” with artists like 2 Live Crew and Luther Campbell, Jermaine Dupri, Timbaland, Organized Noise, Master P and J. Prince.
