Jennifer Lopez, Lin-Manuel Miranda Record Song to Benefit Pulse Victims
Jennifer Lopez and Hamilton star Lin-Manuel Miranda have teamed for a new song titled “Love Make the World Go Round,” recorded as a tribute to the victims of the tragic Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando. Proceeds from the download of the track will benefit the Hispanic Federation’s Proyecto Somos Orlando.
Miranda, who is leaving his Tony-dominating Broadway show on July 7th, and Lopez first teased that they would be dropping some new music on July 4th, with the pair both tweeting a behind-the-scenes video of their collaboration Monday afternoon. “Me and @Lin_Manuel working in studio on something very special…,” Lopez wrote.

What we got is love even when the sinners hate us / We cannot let them diminish or intimidate us / We sing out, we got the rhythm and the true on our side / We cut through the divide and we do it with pride,” Miranda raps in the teaser. “A generation of innovators enabled to patiently wait for change ’cause change is what they’ve been afraid of / the malevolence can wait, raise a level of debate, celebrate, elevate.”
The release date for the full version of “Love Make the World Go Round” hasn’t been announced, but when it does arrive, proceeds from the track will go toward the Hispanic Federation’s continued work in the aftermath of the Pulse nightclub shooting; 95 percent of the victims in the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history were Latino.
“The days, weeks, months, and even years following will be a time of healing for our nation, but especially for victims and the families of the victims,” the Hispanic Federation wrote on their site. “Proyecto Somos Orlando will address the long-term needs for mental health services that are culturally competent and bilingual. Proyecto will enable care to be delivered to those affected directly in the communities in which they live. Beyond emergency assistance, they will be provided with case management, crisis intervention, and mental health services, among other needs.”
