Hear Charles Esten’s Enlivening ‘Through the Blue’
Since arriving in Music City four years ago to star in ABC’s Nashville, which moves to CMT later this year, Charles Esten has found the balance between his acting experience (as the show’s Deacon Claybourne) and his other longstanding passion as a singer-songwriter. While he has been a featured performer on the musical drama’s many LP releases, one thing he has yet to do is release an album or EP of his own. But instead of taking that route, Esten has decided to take advantage of the more instantaneous nature of the digital-music world.
Beginning today and continuing each Friday until he “runs out of music” he feels like releasing, Esten will offer a new, original single every week. He kicks off the series, which he teased with the hashtag #EverySingleFriday, with a powerful tune called “Through the Blue.”
“Might be a song you sing or John 3:16, might be a long walk or a phone call from a long lost friend,” Esten sings, noting the various ways one can muster strength and persevere through difficult times. His impassioned vocals and a blazing guitar solo highlight the tune, which was written with Kendell Marvel and Tim James.
Earlier this week, Esten performed “Through the Blue” as he joined Nashville castmates Clare Bowen, Chris Carmack, Lennon & Maisy Stella, Mark Collie and guitarist Colin Linden, along with JD Souther and Pam Tillis on a live stream of the Emmy-nominated web series Skyville Live.
In June, following their third U.S. trek, Esten and other members of the Nashville cast staged their first-ever international tour with a series of dates in the United Kingdom.
