Watch Billy Ray Cyrus Wander City Streets in Black Stone Cherry Video
When Kentucky hard-rock outfit Black Stone Cherry set out to film the video for their country-flavored new single “The Rambler,” they cast one of the state’s most famous natives as the titular wandering spirit: Billy Ray Cyrus.
Cyrus, from Flatwoods, Kentucky, stars as a mysterious stranger, navigating city streets in a vintage pick-up. Eventually, he arrives at his destination — a run-of-the-mill bar. But the Rambler isn’t there to drown his troubles. Instead, he’s looking for his estranged daughter, the bartender, who rushes into his arms after a fight with her boyfriend. The stranger offers his shoulder, but, in a twist, never reveals his true identity, choosing to just fade away into the night from which he came.
Directed by fellow Bluegrass State native Blake Judd, the video is especially poignant given Cyrus’s formerly tumultuous relationship with pop-star daughter Miley.
“The Rambler” is the final track on Black Stone Cherry’s latest album, aptly titled Kentucky. The band is currently on the Carnival of Madness Tour with Shinedown, Halestorm and Whiskey Myers. Cyrus, meanwhile, will release his new album Thin Line on September 9th. The LP features special guests Joe Perry, Bryan Adams, Shooter Jennings and children Miley and Braison.
