See Ryan Adams and Margo Price’s Delicate ‘A Kiss Before I Go’
Days after ripping through a ballsy, brass-heavy version of “Four Years of Chances” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Margo Price headed south, joining Ryan Adams for a show in Charlottesville, Virginia.
After opening the concert with her band, Price returned to the stage several times during Adams’ headlining set, adding harmonies to the Heartbreaker songs “Come Pick Me Up” and “Oh My Sweet Carolina.” Above, she joins Adams for a scaled-down version of “A Kiss Before I Go,” stripped free of the pedal-steel guitar riffs and piano chords that fuel the song’s arrangement on Jacksonville City Nights.
Once a staple of Adams’ live set, “A Kiss Before I Go” has fallen out of rotation in recent years. “I don’t know if I remember it!” Adams admits in the performance, before launching into the song’s opening chords on the acoustic guitar. The rendition is spotless, though, with Price — whose solo debut, Midwest Farmer’s Daughter, shares more than a few strands of musical DNA with the countryfied Jacksonville City Nights — chiming in during every chorus.
Price’s string of high-profile concerts continues with tonight’s show in Hershey, Pennsylvania, where she’ll open for Brandi Carlile. She’ll rejoin her frequent tour mates Old Crow Medicine Show for another Pennsylvania performance tomorrow, then make an appearance at the Newport Folk Festival on Saturday.
