Thompson Square to Bring Grand Ole Opry Music Series to New York
For the fourth consecutive year, the Grand Ole Opry will bring its famous microphone stand and wooden circle (a replica, anyway) to New York City for a series of outdoor concerts at Bryant Park.
The shows kick off July 26th with North Carolina country band Parmalee and continue August 2nd with guitar-slinger Lindsay Ell, before wrapping up with CMA and ACM award-winning duo Thompson Square on August 9th. All three acts are regular performers on the Grand Ole Opry’s stage in Nashville.
Each performance, beginning at 8:30 p.m. ET, is a stripped-down acoustic affair, and all are free to the public. In addition, the shows will be streamed via the Opry’s Facebook. The esteemed country-music radio show and institution is currently celebrating its 90th anniversary.
All three featured acts are currently on the road: Thompson Square promoting the single “You Make It Look So Good”; Parmalee in support of their country-life anthem “Roots”; and Ell, playing both festival gigs and appearing with country DJ Bobby Bones and his band the Raging Idiots.
The continuing concert series isn’t the Grand Ole Opry’s only foray into New York. In March, Ryman Hospitality, which operates the Opry, announced plans to build a Nashville-themed restaurant and performance space in Times Square.
