Watch Pistol Annies’ Surprise Reunion in Arkansas
Miranda Lambert is splitting time this summer between her headlining Keeper of the Flame tour and as one of the special guests on Kenny Chesney’s Spread the Love trek. In addition to getting geared up for new music (her latest single, “Vice” will be released later today) and rolling out hit after hit – plus a few choice covers, including the Mountain rocker “Mississippi Queen” – during her live shows, Lambert has been reuniting on stage with her Pistol Annies cohorts Angaleena Presley and Ashley Monroe.
At a stop on her headlining tour in Rogers, Arkansas, on Friday, Lambert introduced her pals Presley and Monroe for a pair of sultry performances: the trio did a bluesy rendition of “Hell on Heels” and dusted off another track from that gold-certified album, the sassy “Takin’ Pills.” Both performances highlighted the threesome’s sharp, no nonsense attitude and their supreme gift for harmony. They also, of course, served as a reminder that there hasn’t been a new Pistol Annies album project in three years, even as the three singers continue to perform both on Lambert’s tour and during her set on Chesney’s, as well.
The following night, after their appearance at the Walmart AMP (Arkansas Music Pavilion), they took the stage during Lambert’s opening set on Chesney’s tour stop in Kansas City. And last year, they reunited during a stop in Augusta, Georgia, on Lambert’s Roadside Bars and Pink Guitars tour, performing “Hush Hush” from their second LP.
The trio of songwriters, who started the Pistol Annies side project in 2011, released Hell on Heels in August of that year, and topped the chart with their debut. In 2013, their sophomore effort, Annie Up, sold almost twice as many albums as the first had in its first week. Since that time, Monroe has released two solo LPs and Presley one, while Lambert’s Platinum was issued in 2014. “Vice” is the lead track from Lambert’s soon-to-be-released sixth studio album, which is rumored to be titled Records I Never Heard.
