See Zac Brown Band’s Cinematic ‘I’ll Be Your Man’ Video
With four girls ranging in age from four to eight, Zac Brown certainly knows the pleasures and perils that go along with raising daughters. In the just-released epic music video for “I’ll Be Your Man (Song for a Daughter),” Brown and his onscreen offspring share some heartwarming — and terrifying — moments that both test and cement the bonds between father and child.
Directed by Diego Pernía, who also helmed the clips that make up the Zac Brown Band‘s three-part “Remedy” film, “I’ll Be Your Man” contains touches of fantasy, with references to fireflies and powerful inner light, and captures those challenging moments when a father’s love and affection is challenged by the presence of another man in the form of a new love. The sweet, breezy tune, punctuated by the band’s delectable harmonies, shows the young girl growing up, falling in love and getting her heart broken, with the song’s gentle tone gradually turning into a dramatic gospel-inspired shout before fading into the final harrowing scenes that involve a dark, threatening ordeal. Naturally, Brown comes to his daughter’s aid but not without some otherworldly assistance.
“‘I’ll Be Your Man’ is heavy for me,” Brown revealed in an interview about the song. “Since the minute I knew I was gonna have a daughter I’ve been preparing myself to have to let her go. There’s no greater honor than to be a father to a daughter and to know that love; to have unconditional love and to be able to be their man until they get older… to essentially always be their man.”
“I’ll Be Your Man (Song for a Daughter)” is featured on Zac Brown Band’s Number One LP Jekyll + Hyde, released in April 2015.
The group will be featured in a career-spanning exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, opening next week and running through July 2017. They’ll kick off 2017 in Mexico with a few hundred of their closest friends and fans. The “Castaway With Southern Ground” trip is set for January 30th — February 3rd, with Zac Brown Band teaming with Cloud 9 Adventures for sun, sand and songs at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya. Joining the country-rockers for nightly performances during the trip are Drake White & the Big Fire, Margo Price, Muddy Magnolias, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Toots & The Maytals, JJ Grey & Mofro, Nahko and Medicine for the People.
