Watch Stephen Colbert Crash RNC for ‘Hunger Games’ Skit
The Republican National Convention is underway, but before Donald Trump, Mike Pence, Paul Ryan and Scott Baio take the stage, Stephen Colbert invaded the Cleveland event Sunday to film a Late Show sketch.
Throughout the election season, dating back to the earliest primaries, Colbert has presented the “Hungry for Power Games” to keep track of all the presidential hopefuls. As each candidate was eliminated – like Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Jeb Bush and, most recently, Bernie Sanders – Colbert’s blue-haired Hunger Games-inspired character has bid each politician farewell. With Trump the last Republican standing, Colbert visited the RNC (a day early) to crown the champion.
In the sketch that will likely air on Monday’s episode, Colbert cracked jokes about vice president choice Mike Pence from atop the RNC stage. “[Trump] has formed an alliance with Indiana governor Mike Pence,” Colbert says before nodding off. “Sorry I blacked out there for a moment.” Colbert has recently pretended to fall asleep on air whenever mentioning Pence on the Late Show, The Hollywood Reporter writes.
After getting some jokes in, a security member – likely an actor – pushes Colbert’s character off stage. “I know I’m not supposed to be up here, but let’s be honest, neither is Donald Trump,” Colbert quipped as he exited.
Backstage, Colbert teased more troublemaking:

Colbert has promised plenty of coverage from both the Republican and Democratic conventions, although Monday’s episode is especially notable as former Daily Show host Jon Stewart will appear in some capacity.
