Flashback: See Jason Aldean’s Stunning Stage Entrance at Fenway Park
On July 12th, 2013, Jason Aldean earned himself a little piece of history by becoming the first country artist to perform at Boston’s famed Fenway Park, normally the home of the Red Sox. The singer’s Night Train tour, named for his third full-length album, also included shows at Chicago’s Wrigley Field and Sanford Stadium at the University of Georgia — some of the current ACM Entertainer of the Year’s first stadium shows.
Aldean was on a hot streak (which hasn’t exactly cooled), having scored huge hits with “She’s Country,” “My Kinda Party” and “Dirt Road Anthem,” among numerous others. The show at Fenway featured a helpful, anticipation-building countdown (as did all stops on the Night Train tour), followed by the raucous strains of Dropkick Murphys’ entirely appropriate “I’m Shipping Up to Boston.” Out of that din came the sounds of train whistles and bells, with images of trains passing on the massive video screens. The crowd went wild with the opening guitar riff from “Crazy Town,” and even more so with the pyrotechnical explosions that accompanied Aldean’s entrance. With a seizure-inducing arsenal of lights and screens behind him, Aldean stood out front on the catwalk and sang his song about the struggles of making it in Nashville that he’d left far behind.
Just over three years later, Aldean will be back at Fenway on September 9th and 10th, sharing the stage with Kid Rock. That coincides perfectly with the September 9th release of Aldean’s seventh album They Don’t Know, which features the recent Number One “Lights Come On.”
