Brad Paisley Pledges Cash to West Virginia Flood Victims
Earlier this month, historic flooding overtook Brad Paisley‘s home state of West Virginia, killing 23 people, the highest death toll from flash flooding in the U.S. since May of 2010. In response, Paisley has launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise $1 million for disaster relief, beginning with his own donation of $100,000.
“There’s been people saying ‘Would you do a concert, are you going to come up here?’ . . . As one of the celebrities from our state I certainly have a responsibilty to keep awareness up on this. After carefully considering what would be the best thing to do, we decided to start a GoFundMe site,” Paisley said in a Facebook video, adding that he would be visiting the state to witness the damage firsthand.
“We as a state are a very strong state and have much love for one another and band together in these times. Eventually maybe we’ll do a concert in the area, now is not the time for that,” he said.
After a string of tour dates in Canada, Paisley returns to the U.S. on July 16th for an appearance at Jamboree in the Hills in Morristown, Ohio, a stone’s throw from Wheeling, West Virginia.
