Watch David Tennant Read Hilarious Tweets at Trump on ‘Samantha Bee’
Samantha Bee spoke about the U.K.’s decision to leave the European Union. The Full Frontal host had particularly sharp words for Nigel Farage, a champion of the Brexit cause who backpedaled on many of his party’s promises – especially a £350 million funding increase for the U.K.’s healthcare system, NHS – as soon as victory was assured.
“While millions of Brits were frantically Googling, ‘How do you spell E.U.?’ or just weeping uncontrollably,” Bee quipped, “Nigel Farage – leader of the right wing U.K. Independence Party, champion of the anti-Europe movement, and insufferable frog-faced wanker – was sharing his Brexit jubilation on the Good Morning Britain program by walking back promises about healthcare and magic beans.” Bee also went after the xenophobic rhetoric that surrounded the Brexit campaign: “when Britain really needs dark people again, they’ll just colonize you.”
Donald Trump, who was in Scotland for the reopening of a golf course he owns there, voiced his support for Brexit, calling it “a great thing … a fantastic thing.” He singled out possible immigration restrictions as a boon for Scotland. “You’re taking your country back,” he told a crowd. “You’re gonna let people you want into your country, and people you don’t want or people that you don’t think are going to be appropriate for your country, you’re not gonna have to take.
But Trump appeared to forget that Scotland voted to remain in the E.U. The candidate subsequently came under fire on Twitter, and Bee drafted the actor David Tennant (Doctor Who, Jessica Jones) to read nasty tweets about Trump – including one that likened him to “a weapons-grade plum.”
