Hear Jamie Lynn Spears’ Confident ‘Sleepover’
Singer-songwriter Jamie Lynn Spears has released a new song called “Sleepover,” her first since the 2014 EP The Journey. Spears was also the focus of a TLC documentary, When the Lights Go Out, that aired on June 26th.
Written by Spears with Liz Rose, Tina Parol and Corey Crowder, “Sleepover” is a pop-tinged tune about patience. Specifically, Spears plays the part of a woman in the early part of a relationship, wanting to take her time and expecting him to understand and respect her wishes. “This ain’t no, this ain’t no sleepover,” she informs him, in no uncertain terms. She’d rather have a little old-school romance and time to establish trust.
“[It’s] young and flirty, yet very empowering as a woman,” Spears tells Rolling Stone Country about the song, which she wrote on a writing retreat in Florida. “To embrace that fun, young side of myself is a little harder for me. So that’s something I really tackled: embracing the flirty, softer side of myself.”
The younger sister to pop star Britney, Jamie Lynn Spears has turned her focus to a country music career in the last few years. In addition to the singles she has recorded for herself, she also co-wrote Jana Kramer’s top 10 hit “I Got the Boy.”
