Bernie Sanders: Crazy to Argue About ‘Sane Gun Control’
Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders took aim at the House GOP Thursday on The Late Show, explaining the “embarrassing” need for Democrats to stage a sit-in. “It is so crazy that we have to argue about having sane gun control legislation, keeping guns away from terrorists,” he told Stephen Colbert.
“We have Republicans who apparently think it’s OK to keep people off of airplanes – for good reasons because they are possible terrorists, and we all want to see that continue – yet these very same people who can’t get on a plane apparently can walk into a gun store and buy an AK-47, which can be used to mow down people,” he said.
The Democratic presidential candidate also discussed the whirlwind surge of his campaign, telling Colbert, “We went further and faster than I would have predicted.” Sanders corrected the host, who posited that his success was about “idealism,” by explaining that his core platforms, like “healthcare to all people as a right,” are “not radical ideas.”
Colbert asked the senator to name some of his favorite campaign memories. Sanders cited walking out in Portland, Oregon and seeing 28,000 people in an arena and speaking to parents in Flint, Michigan whose children developed brain damage after being poisoned by the water.
