Watch Neil Young Perform With Jimmy Fallon’s ‘Neil Young’ on ‘Tonight Show’
After years of impersonating Neil Young on both Late Night and The Tonight Show, host Jimmy Fallon finally performed alongside the actual rocker in February 2015. Tuesday night, the two Youngs reunited once again, this time on an acoustic, environmentally conscious original titled “Two Neil Youngs on a Tree Stump.”
“Two Neil Youngs on a tree stump/ Where did the other Neil come from?/ Came from the future back to the past to warn your ass,” the Youngs sang atop a rotating tree stump. “We’re two Neil Youngs/ Sitting on a tree stump/ Used to be a tree trunk/ But look at what we’ve done/ Said the father to the son/ The leaves on the trees had to leave and the air that we breathe is gone.”
Young was on Tonight Show to promote his new “live” album Earth, which tackles concerns about the environment, so his Tuesday night duet with Fallon wasn’t nearly as lighthearted as his April 2015 appearance, when Young and “Young” delivered a take on the classic “Old Man.”
Prior to that, Fallon had been using his pitch perfect Young impression for years to perform viral hit “Pants on the Ground” and the Fresh Prince of Bel Air theme in the key of Harvest. Fallon’s “Young” also appeared onstage with Bruce Springsteen and played the role of “Y” in CSNY’s cover of Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy.”
Previously this week, Young visited the WTF podcast to talk Earth, PONO and the demise of radio.
