Hear the Odd Advice Donald Trump Gave 11-Year-Old Daniel Radcliffe
As the young star of the Harry Potter movies, Daniel Radcliffe was thrown into some strange situations – including one where he encountered Donald Trump backstage before an interview on The Today Show.
“It was my first time in New York,” Radcliffe said to Seth Meyers on Monday night. “I was really nervous, 11-years-old, had never been on live TV before and was terrified. [Trump] was a guest on it, and presumably somebody went up to him and was like, ‘you wanna meet the kid that plays Harry Potter?’ … I remember having some idea of who he was but not really a full concept.”
When Radcliffe told the real-estate mogul that he was nervous about his upcoming interview, Trump apparently responded: “you just tell them you met Mr. Trump.” “To this day, I can’t even imagine that level of confidence,” Radcliffe said. He attempted to put himself in Trump’s shoes, quipping, “I am interesting enough to be everyone’s story.”
The actor hit the late night circuit in order to promote his new role in the Off Broadway production of James Graham’s play Privacy, according to Variety. Radcliffe has appeared in several Broadway shows to date, including Equus and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. The actor will grace the stage of the Public Theater.
Theatergoers are expected to keep their phones on during the performance so they can participate in the production. “A lot of the show is about the nature of privacy in a post-Edward Snowden world,” Radcliffe told Meyers. “It also brings in social media … there’s a lot of interactions that go on onstage that we want people to be a part of in the audience and play along. There’s a poll at some point, you can email stuff to us during the show … if we pull it off, it’s gonna be really cool.”
A new poll finds 47 percent of Americans would rather invite Donald Trump to their barbecue than Hillary Clinton. Watch here.
