Martina McBride Mines ‘Diamond’ With Keith Urban: The Ram Report
While their 2007 duet, “Tryin’ to Find a Reason” laments an inevitable breakup, Martina McBride and Keith Urban‘s new collaboration could be its sunnier sequel. “Diamond” is a message to women about shining through the pain when life — and love — let you down.
“We all have to remind ourselves it’s OK not to be perfect,” McBride tells Rolling Stone Country. “On the surface it looks OK but we’re looking for something, trying to figure it out. . . So I sing [‘Diamond’] for myself, and I sing for my girls and everybody out there.”
“Diamond” is featured on McBride’s new Reckless album, which she recorded at her own Blackbird Studio — the same place where Urban crafted part of his new Ripcord album. But, due to American Idol tapings, Urban had to mail his part in from Los Angeles. Still, their vocals blend together as if they’re inches away.
“I’ve always loved the way our voices sound together,” says McBride. “He has a distinctive voice you can immediately recognize, so I wanted him on this record.”
