Hear Bobby Bones and Garth Brooks’ Poignant ‘Fishin’ With My Dad’
When popular country-music DJ Bobby Bones, the host of the nationally syndicated Bobby Bones Show, released his comedy album with the Raging Idiots, The Critics Give It Five Stars, in March, he made sure to include one serious song. “Fishin’ With My Dad” is an autobiographical ballad that touches on Bones’ upbringing without his biological father.
To give the track some extra heft, Bones enlisted one of country music’s most identifiable voices to sing backup: that of Garth Brooks. Ahead of Father’s Day this Sunday, Bones has released a lyric video for “Fishin’ With My Dad,” premiering today above.
“Garth is my favorite of all time,” says Bones. “I listen to the song and am still in disbelief that he lent his voice to such a personal song.”
Bones documented his hardscrabble childhood and rise to radio stardom in his memoir I’m Not Lonely If You’re Reading This Book. The book topped the New York Times bestseller list upon its release last month.
