Hear Kaytranada’s Dreamy Remix of Rihanna’s ‘Kiss It Better’
Kaytranada debuted a dancey, bubbly remix of Rihanna‘s “Kiss It Better” on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show. The Canadian producer released his debut album 99.9% earlier this month.
Kaytranada‘s version of the track speeds up the more languid, guitar-driven funk-soul track and transforms it into a brighter, more summer-ready tune. “I really love the song,” he said of the original track during an interview following the track’s premiere. “I really wanted to remix it and had this whole idea … it’s hard to explain how it works. I just think about it then boom.”
During his appearance, Kaytranada also announced a new mixtape titled 0.01%, a reference to and extension of his 2016 LP, which featured guest appearances from Vic Mensa, AlunaGeorge, Craig David and more. This year, he has produced songs on several other albums including Chance the Rapper’s “All Night” off Coloring Book and Katy B’s “Honey” off her album of the same name. This summer, he’ll be performing at the new NYC fest Panorama alongside LCD Soundsystem, Kendrick Lamar and Arcade Fire as well as the day-long Roots Picnic in Philadelphia which will feature Usher, Future and Leon Bridges.
Outside of Kaytranada’s remix, several major artists have covered Rihanna‘s “Kiss It Better” since the semi-surprise release of her eighth album Anti earlier this year. Father John Misty belted the track during his tour kickoff in March, while Miguel not only covered the track live but teased his own remix of the song that has yet to be officially released.
