Kit Harington Says ‘Sorry’ for ‘Game of Thrones’ Jon Snow Deception
After 10 months of fan speculation, fan-favorite Jon Snow was resurrected during Sunday’s Game of Thrones episode. Actor Kit Harington was forced to keep this crucial plot point a secret, and hopes fans will understand.
“I’d like to say sorry for lying to everyone,” he says in a video interview with Entertainment Weekly. “I’m glad that people were upset that he died. I think my biggest fear was that people were not going to care or it’d just be, ‘Fine, Jon Snow’s dead.’ But it seemed like people did have, similar to the ‘Red Wedding’ episode, a kind of grief about it. Which meant that something I’m doing, or that the show’s doing, for Jon is right.”
The revival occurred as the climax of “Home,” the second episode of Season Six, as Snow was brought back to life by sorceress Melisandre. Harington’s character was dramatically slain in June 2015’s Season Five finale “Mother’s Mercy,” at the hands of his Night’s Watch brothers and Alliser Thorne.
“Quite honestly, I have never been told the future of things in this show, but this is the one time I have,” Harington told Entertainment Weekly following the episode. “They sat me down and said, ‘This is how it is.’ If anything in the future is not like that, then I don’t know about it – it’s only in David [Benioff] and Dan [Weiss] and George [R. R. Martin]’s heads. But I’ve been told I’m dead. I’m dead. I’m not coming back next season. So that’s all I can tell you, really.”
