See Dierks Bentley, Elle King Sing ‘Different for Girls’ on CMT Awards
One of the highlights of Dierks Bentley‘s new album Black is the duet with Elle King “Different for Girls.” The second single off Bentley’s latest LP, “Different for Girls” explores the “men are from Mars, women are from Venus” dichotomy between the sexes when it comes to a breakup. The pair performed the song on tonight’s CMT Music Awards, with King plucking the banjo opposite Bentley’s acoustic strumming in what was one of the show’s most genuine moments.
While Black‘s lead single, the two-week Number One “Somewhere on a Beach,” presented a narrator on a booze and babes binge, “Different for Girls” suggests that same character is maturing.
“The guy in ‘Beach’ ends up being the guy who sings ‘Different for Girls,'” says Bentley. “Maybe he is seeing the world differently.”
King said in a statement that the collaboration with Bentley was “outside of the norm.” “Since I often write from the male perspective, I was really excited to be a part of someone else’s story that is jumping outside of the norm for a relationship song,” she said. “The lyrics are really smart and I love that he is bringing a lot of attitude to modern country music.”
Bentley is currently on his Somewhere on a Beach Tour, a summer-long amphitheater trek that includes guests Randy Houser, Cam and Tucker Beathard. He’ll perform at CMA Music Festival this Thursday.
