Charles Bradley Wails ‘Change for the World’ on Stirring New Song
Charles Bradley pleads and preaches on his psychedelic new soul single, “Change for the World,” set to appear on his upcoming LP, Changes.
The rumbling, ominous cut finds Bradley deftly jumping between talking blues and his singular, heart-wrenching wail amidst bleating horns and serpentine guitars. Bradley’s lyrics are unsettling, blunt and vivid as he calls for empathy and understanding between the younger and older generations in a world swept up in violence.
“Heaven is crying, the world is shaking / God is unhappy, the moon is breaking / Blood is spilling, God is coming,” he chants before unleashing a mighty howl, “What are you gonna do?”
“Change for the World” follows Bradley’s cover of Black Sabbath’s “Changes,” a song he previously released as a Record Store Day Black Friday single in 2013. The cut now anchors the Screaming Eagle of Soul’s new LP, Changes, which is available to pre-order ahead of its April 1st release via Daptone Records imprint Dunham.
Changes will be Bradley’s third LP, following his 2011 Daptone debut No Time for Dreaming and 2013’s Victim of Love. The 67-year-old will kick off his spring tour in Miami on February 20th, with North American and European concerts scheduled through early June. A list of North American dates is below.
