See Spoon Members Cover Prince, David Bowie
Spoon‘s Britt Daniel and Alex Fischel paid tribute to Prince and David Bowie during an acoustic set at Mexico City’s Festival Marvin. The musicians also debuted a new Spoon song.
For their Prince tribute, the Spoon bandmates chose a more obscure song “Under the Cherry Moon” from the 1986 musical drama of the same name. “Seeing Prince play was like witnessing God’s love,” the band tweeted soon after the news of the rock star’s death broke.
They made a surprising choice for their Bowie tribute, covering the Blackstar track “I Can’t Give Everything Away.” Earlier this year, Daniel recorded a cover of Bowie’s “Never Let Me Down” and posted it to Spoon’s SoundCloud as a tribute to the late star.
The pair also teased Spoon’s follow-up to 2014’s They Want My Soul by debuting a new song reportedly titled “I Ain’t the One.” The grunge-y, melancholy song was done with just Daniel’s vocals and Fischel on keyboards.
